A tragic incident in her past leads shape-shifter and now successful Philadelphia storeowner Maggie O’Shea to secretly work for a mysterious foundation dedicated to restoring balance and harmony in the world. In service to love but herself distant from it, her latest mission is to help heal the brokenhearted multi-millionaire businessman and grieving widower Julian McDonald, and make him once again open to the possibilities of true love - not with Maggie herself, but for the woman who is supposed to come after her.

Years of these emotionally draining assignments have naturally left Maggie longing for her dream man, who may or may not be her charismatic but elusive mentor, Marcus Bocelli. But Julian proves to be her toughest challenge yet, for in helping him heal, Maggie herself begins to fall for him. Knowing Julian is destined for greatness, Maggie struggles to remain professionally detached even as Julian resolves that she is his soulmate. But will the newfound love of theirs be able to survive the secrets of the past as well as future obstacles?

Tor, the publisher famous for its fantasy and sci-fi books, strides boldly into the booming new genre of paranormal romances with an impressive new book by Constance O’Day-Flannery, regarded widely as the queen of time-travel rmances. Despite having never before read this author’s books, it still behooves this reviewer to state that, fortunately for Tor, they’ve made an excellent choice. Not only is O'Day-Flannery a popular author with a well-established fan base, but she is also extremely skilled in weaving a most unusual romantic story with gripping paranormal elements - and she has a talent for making the whole process appear so seamless and sound so surprisingly plausible that the book is a total and absolute joy to read.

Set in contemporary Philadelphia and New York, this sensual story has more than its share of complex relationships, and the characters become unforgettable all the more for their imperfections and suffering rather than their heroism. Also, suffice to say Magdalene, that well-known figure from history who is surprisingly in-demand these days, is pivotal to this story as well and enhances it most effectively. With new twists and fresh perspectives on an age-old plot, this captivating book heralds the beginning for a refreshing new line of paranormal romances, ones that are darker and grittier for even paranormals and are sure to appeal to a wide range of readers.
