Free Fall is the latest installment of Grabenstein's John Ceepak
mystery series. This is the eighth entry, and like the earlier books is full of high-voltage excitement and fast-paced action. Summer has arrived once again, and Danny Boyle and Chief of Detectives John Ceepak are confronted with another bad situation. Boyle's friend, an attractive nurse, says she has been improperly accused of hurting a prestigious Sea Haven resident. She says she did not nothing improper, and now it's up to the witty Ceepak to make sense of it.
The
detective initially believes her, but his belief codes are thrown to the wind
when one of the patients at the facility ends up dead. The ensuing story is a
fun and energized ride full of sizzling repartee and tests of wit:
"Good morning, Danny. I ordered your coffee. Black, per usual."
"Thanks," I say, noticing that Ceepak has already organized the sweetener packets in their little filing rack: White, Brown, Blue, Pink, Yellow. I'm also pretty certain the salt and pepper shakers have been inspected, their screw tops found to be properly secured.
"You have a good weekend? I ask.
"Roger that. We took my mother over to the mainland. She needed a new toilet bowl brush. Target has an interesting and wide selection."
It's droll, articulate and laugh-riot funny. Ceepak has been around for eight books--he must have something going for him. Pick up Free Fall and find out for yourself.
