Eddie Trunk is a DJ and television host who loves all things metal. In this book, Trunk writes about 35 of his favorite bands including Van Halen, Metallica, Anthrax and Aerosmith. He delves into a bit of
each band's history and fleshes out each chapter with anecdotal bits about his
involvement with the group. Here is an excerpted piece from the author's intro:
"This book touches on some of the bands that are most important to me. Some bands made the book simply because I'm such a huge fan or for other selfish reasons, and others because they were vital to the evolution of hard rock and metal in the '70s and '80s. It was very hard deciding where to cut off the list - every time I said I was done, another band would hit me, and I would say, 'They have to go in!' Many bands I love are not included, but who knows, maybe I'll get to write another book on them one day."
You can see that Trunk not only comes from a position of knowledge but with the passion of a fan. He's hung out with all of these bands, interviewed them, and listened intently to their music. He calls Ronnie Dio one of the most special people he's ever met and says that Neal Peart is very down-home and unassuming; Lemmy was one of his toughest interviews, and Anthrax once filled his bed with shaving cream.
If you want a brief glimpse behind the curtain to see what happens backstage and in the dressing rooms of 35 of the biggest metal bands in the world, check out Trunk's new book.
