New Orleans has fallen victim to the monster hurricane Katrina. In its wake, indescribable destruction and chaos reigns in the sorry remnants of the city. Territorial boundaries of the supernatural residents have been obscured, and dark forces attempt to slink back into the city undetected. The strength of the reigning Demon is tied to the city, and its devastation does not bode well for the supernatural forces within its limits.

Ex-FBI agent Karen Black has been tirelessly hunting a serial killer tied to one of her FBI cases from nearly ten years back. This serial killer is a demon, switching host bodies constantly and creating endless devastation in his wanderings. Karen has always been courageous and confident in her work, willing to take risks if the end justifies the means. When opportunities knocks, Karen is full steam ahead. She has trailed her serial killer to New Orleans, and neither is waiting for an invitation to enter the reigning Demon’s territory.

Jayné has inherited a fortune far larger than an average human can imagine. She has also been brought into the family business of fighting demons and other supernatural entities that wreak havoc among humans. When Karen Black calls for Jayné's help, it’s only natural to stop everything and fly halfway across the world to search and destroy a naughty demon. Yeah, right.

Deception and anger swirl around the voodoo community of New Orleans, and Jayné steps right into the middle of it with her team’s pursuit. As she learns more about the key players within New Orleans and watches the problems grow within her own camp, Jayné realizes that the deception may be coming from someone closer to home. The pressures of the hunt, combined with interpersonal issues boiling within Jayné’s small group, may be enough to roil the tides of power within the supernatural community and tear apart the small family that has become home to lonely Jayné.

Urban fantasy has reached new heights with the fantastic Black Sun’s Daughter series. Darker Angels is the second book in M.L.N. Hanover's series, a sequel whose characters and storyline pick up where the first book left off. For readers new to the series, some of the vocabulary and characters may pose difficulty initially but are easy to catch on to as the plot thickens and the phenomenal twists laced throughout the storyline heighten the suspense.
